I was looking at the truck calendar on Ebay and found your forum. I'm glad to see so many young (under 40) rodders enjoying these old trucks. I've owned several of them through the years and am now working on a '57 F-100 Panel. I needs a lot of work, but I've been building cars for almost 50 years and still enjoy the challenge. It's powered by a '69 351W and FMX trans. I'm just now really getting into this truck and am planning to install a '72 Nova subframe with power steering and disc brakes, which I already have. I plan to swap in an AOD when I make the subframe change. This will be used as a cruiser and to pull my 13 foot '61 Forester camp trailer. It's all about having FUN!!!

Hey Fellas,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm VERY new to this and am trying to figure it all out. I'm not really sure how to post pictures. I did join Facebook yesterday, as well. Here again, I'm just trying to get it figured out. Can you tell me how to include a picture of the panel along with my sign-in? It ain't pretty, but like me, it's old...

Morning From Oregon....
I am a Brand new member also, but a Fabricator for Life.... What a Face

In reguards to your Subframe swap.....Have you done any research into a Crown Vic front swap....?

the Entire Vic Front crossmember is an Alum Bolt in...You get 12inch Disc brakes, double a-arm with coils,Rack and pinion Steering and the crossmember is already set up for ford Small block....
Do a search and there are many write ups about it
I have a Local Frind who was going to do a Volarie Swap into his 57 and When I told him about the Vic swap he was all over it....inside one week he had the Vic under his Front end....all he had to do was box the Original Frame and drill some holes to bolt....
It dropped his truck 3 inches on Factory Vic stiff Police car Coils..... cheers
All our Older Ford Frames are within 1 inch of The same dimensions as the Vic Crossmember
I will be doing the same swap to my 65 Stepside this next summer....
If you are interested, PM me with your e-mail and I can send you some pics....

Chat soon, John

Thanks for the info, John. I had wanted to use a Crown Vic front end, but was thinking "subframe". The frame widens out too quickly on it so I turned to the Nova. I never thought about just using the crossmember and suspension. I'll check it out. I'll PM you on it if I like what I find. Pictures sure would be nice. I will say, that the Nova looks like it would work really good. Naturally, it would be better if it had a Ford bolt pattern. I've got 9" car rears that I could swap under it.
Thanks Again!!

Morning rcjccobra...

No problem on the Info for the Vic swap....

I am a Fabricator and Mechanic.....I Love the net for Gleaning Ideas....

5 yrs ago I was originally going to drop a 64 Ford Flareside Shorty....Thats when I stumbled on the Vic swap...
I have a J/y 4 blocks from me, so I went right over to do some measuring....On my 64 Frame, if I were to Box in the Front, and Drill...The Vic Bolts right in.....The Whole Sub assembly... cheers
So When my friend was chatting about doing the Volarie swap on his Ford, I told him about the swap....
He Got lucky and Bought a Complete wrecked Police Vic for 5 bills....He got the Heavy Duty Suspension package, big brakes,Rack, and Rear end with sway bars....Even having the Heavy Coils in the thing it dropped his front 3 inches....with no Engine yet.....Should get an aditional 1-2 inches with his Built 351 slid in....

If you are looking for Super Cush Ride....You can also swap in A Thunderbird Rear Sub assembly....It gives you IRS in the rear , Disc brakes, and Lower Ride as well....I want to say the T-Bird age everyone is using is 88-97ish.....It will have an 8.8 inch rear diff, and the same bolt pattern as the Vic...Smile
Thiat what I was going to do....then all running gear is Fresher....Disc at all 4 corners and IRS Or IFS too....
And Lower the Overall stance of the truck 3-5 inches...and the Coils can be played with to gain more if you so choose....

I didn't do this Swap on mine...I am going Gasser instead....Smile I have a 68 472 Caddie Engine getting prepped to go in..... affraid

If you do the Vic...Definately take pics and post them....
